Who do these sessions support?

The class is perfect for older adults & those with long-term health conditions.  This is a Parkinson’s friendly class which means that the teacher has undergone specific training to understand the benefits of exercise for those living with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. The exercises are evidence based, gentle & low-impact.

What will happen in the sessions?

This class will include a gentle warm-up with breathing & mindfulness exercises. We will move onto a fun aerobic section & then work on balance, flexibility & strength with the help of resistance bands & balls. There will be options to come up to standing with chair support and free standing exercises, but you can participate in all activities from a seated position. The classes aid physical mobility but also increase mental wellbeing, particularly with the use of soothing, calming music & guided breathing techniques.

What are the benefits of exercise for older people?

Chair Yoga and Exercise in Middlesbrough and Stockton

Strength: Resistance training with bands & balls increases muscle strength.
Range of movement: The increase in body temperature & blood flow when we exercise makes muscles more elastic & joints more lubricated. This leads to a great range of movement and more flexibility.
Fitness: Aerobic exercises improve heart health & endurance.
Functionality: Increasing strength & flexibility impacts on many areas of everyday life. Our clients find that everyday activities such as walking up & down stairs, reaching for things from the floor & getting dressed become easier after regular training.

Is this class for me?

Yes! We provide a warm, welcoming environment & adapt all exercises to your ability. Exercises can be done seated, with chair support or free standing. The classes are relaxed & sociable but, if you’re feeling unsure, you’re welcome to bring along a friend or family member for support. All abilities are welcome.
