‘Keep Moving Teesside’ – Gentle Exercise Classes, Chair Yoga and Yoga in Ingleby Barwick and Stockton-on-Tees.

The NHS recommends you should do 120-150 moderate exercise every week and do some form of physical activity every day, especially as we get older.
It is recommended that we should also do exercises that focus on strength and flexibility twice a week. AMALAwellness can help you achieve that goal with our Gentle Yoga and ‘Keep Moving Teesside!’ Chair Yoga and Exercise classes in Ingleby Barwick.

Gentle Yoga at

Ingleby Barwick Community Centre.

AMALAwellness are teaming up with Phil from The Yoga Beard to bring a new, gentle yoga class to Ingleby Barwick! Designed specifically for those who need an accessible form of yoga, this will be a fun & engaging traditional yoga class delivered in Phil’s unique style.

Together, you’ll work to improve flexibility, balance and strength as well as learning breathwork techniques. This class will include kneeling, lunges and coming to and from the floor from standing.

When? Starts Thursday 7th March, 10am – 11am

Where? Ingleby Barwick Community Hall

Cost? Try your 1st session for free! If you enjoy it and wish to sign up, a 4 week course is £24.00 (£6.00 a session) & drop ins welcome at £7.50

Phil is a DDPY Certified Instructor who has completed 200hr yoga teacher training & teaches a range of open and inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly classes around Teesside. DDP Yoga is a mix of traditional yoga moves, calisthenics, rehab stretches & dynamic resistance.

This class is perfect if you’re looking to start, or return to, fitness but need a gentle modality of exercise, with the aim of looking after not only physical, but mental wellbeing! See you on the mat!

What is ‘Keep Moving Teesside!’?

Keep Moving Teesside! is an exercise class designed for older adults and those with a need for gentle exercise.
It helps with maintaining flexibility, mobility, aerobic fitness, balance and strength. They help “turn back the clock” and help maintain independence.

The exercises can be done standing, seated on a chair or standing with chair support and are classed as low-impact.

We use exercise equipment to help build strength and improve flexibility and mobility.

We use pom poms to help improve aerobic fitness and mobility and exercise bands to strengthen shoulders, back, chest, arms and legs.
We also use special spiky ‘hedgehog balls’ to improve shoulder mobility and strengthen inner thighs, grip and wrist strength. Using equipment is really fun and our class members love the variety it brings.

Purchase equipment for your home practice.

You can purchase equipment to practice at home, just let your teacher know if you are interested and we can put an order in for you.

Exercise bands, pom poms (X2) and hedgehog balls are £5.00 each.

Classes are social and fun!

Attending a Keep Moving Teesside! class is great fun and as much a social event as a fitness class. It will help you stay fit, motivated active and independent.

Price: £5.00 a class (Booking essential due to Covid Restrictions)
Time: Fridays 1:30-2:30pm.

Join us on Mondays in Norton.

Location: The Glebe Community Centre, Norton, Stockton-on-Tees.
Price: £5.00 a class (Booking essential due to Covid Restrictions)
Time: Mondays 3:15-4:15pm.

  3. Yoga is especially beneficial to senior citizens because it’s low-impact plus it can help relax them. It’s nice that there are equipment for them to use as well.
